Trust as Core Product

tip

This is SEKEN's primary strategic insight. Trust is not a feature or a nice-to-have, it is the reason SEKEN exists as a structured platform rather than an Instagram or WhatsApp group.

The Core Insight

Secondhand fashion in Indonesia is already happening at scale, but informally, via Instagram DMs, WhatsApp groups, and TikTok Live. These channels have no item protection, no secure payment layer, no accountability, and no recourse when deals go wrong.

SEKEN's reason to exist is the trust gap. A buyer cannot verify a seller on WhatsApp. A seller cannot guarantee payment. Items get misrepresented; money disappears. The informal channels create the problem that SEKEN solves.

This means trust is not a product feature that SEKEN adds on top of a marketplace, it is the marketplace's core value proposition.

Seller accountabilityAnonymous, no historyVerified identity, seller rating

Implications for Every Team

Product: Every feature should ask, does this increase trust between seller and buyer? ID verification, item protection, disbursement reliability, and transparent commission all serve this.

Marketing: The brand promise is safety and connection. Copy for sellers = "your money is safe." Copy for buyers = "what you see is what you get."

Strategy: Trust is the moat. It takes time to build and is hard to replicate. A competitor can copy the UI; it cannot copy a track record of safe transactions.

Operations: ops.pasarseken.id exists specifically to enforce trust, ID checks, listing verification, moderation. This is not overhead; it is the product.

Analogue

Vinted in Europe built its dominance on the same insight: users moved from informal Facebook groups and local classifieds to Vinted because Vinted made transactions safe. SEKEN's thesis is that Indonesia is at the same inflection point.
